Colombo saw lots of rain in the past couple of days, and rained heavily today as well. keeping that in mind, Captain Aaron Finch decided to bowl first after winning the toss for Australia.

Danushka Gunathilaka got off to a flyer. He smashed 26 off just 15 balls with 3 boundaries and a six. Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka scored a partnership of 61 runs in quick time. SL were 100 for 1 in just 11 overs and after that it all went down hill for them.

Mitchell Starc removed Pathum Nissanka  (36) in the 12th over.


Josh Hazlewood took 3 wickets in the span of two overs to send Sri Lanka to the point of no recovery. Sri Lanka were all out for 128 in 19.3 overs. Josh Hazlewood

was sensational with the ball for Australia he took 4 wickets in his four over and gave away just 16 runs. Mitchell Starc took 3 for 26 in 3 overs.

Chasing a small total. David Warner and Aaron Finch started consciously as Sri Lanka started with the spin. They unleashed in the 5th over and smashed Wanindu Hasaranga for 19 runs. Australia reached 50 in 5.1 overs. Australia are world champions and they played like world champions. David Warner hit his 5th consecutive 50 against Sri Lanka.


Rain interrupted the game when Australia were 101/0 in 11.4 overs. Play resumed after half an hour. David Warner and Aaron Finch scored an unbeaten partnership of 134 runs to win the 1st T20I by 10 wickets with 36 balls to spare. David Warner scored 70* in 44 balls with 9 boundaries and Finch scored 61* off 40 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes.
