Media rights of IPL for 2023-2027 were sold for a whopping INR 48,390 crore to Disney Star, Viacom 18 and Times Internet. IPL is all set to be bigger and reportedly will get a separate window form IPL 2023 by ICC FTP.
BCCI president Sourav ganguly said, “The game has never been just about money, it is about talent. The IPL e-auction just showed how strong the game is in our country. The numbers should be the biggest motivation for all the young players to take their ability and Team India to the highest level.”
After the e-auction were completed for IPL media rights, Honorary Secretary of BCCI, jay Shah shared a series of tweet where he said, ”Now, it’s time for our state associations, IPL Franchises to work together with the IPL to enhance the fan experience and ensure that our biggest stakeholder – ‘the cricket fan’ is well looked after and enjoys high quality cricket in world-class facilities.”
Talking about the possible Women IPL from next seaon, Shah said while talking to PTI, “This is a project which is very close to my heart. We will start with either five or six teams in the first edition. I am thrilled at the kind of response we have gotten from stakeholders. Multiple existing IPL teams have enquired and expressed serious interest in owning WIPL franchises.”
Not to forget interest from outside. We are in discussions with other Boards about the possible window when all top cricketers will be available. I can promise that the valuation of the league, franchises, and media rights will stun one and all
This news created a buzz on social media and cricket fans shared their reactions.
